JOB DESCRIPTION: EXPERIENCED PARALEGAL

Pay Range:  $22-$25/hour

Full Time Position (32 Hours/Week)

 

General Responsibilities:

This position will assist and provide a diverse range of legal support to the clients of Riverside County Coalition for Alternatives to Domestic Violence which include the preparation of Temporary Restraining Orders (TROs); Domestic Violence Restraining Order (DVRO), Guardianships, Child Support, Visitation, and Custody Orders, Dissolution of Marriage, Legal Separation and other Family Law Matters. The Paralegal will assist our In-House Attorney and CEO with the formation and management of the Legal Department. Work closely with the Legal and Management Teams to establish policies and procedures as it relates to the Legal Department.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

  • Assists clients in obtaining Temporary Restraining Orders (TRO’s) to include Domestic Violence, Elder Abuse, Guardianships, Civil Harassment and other Family Law Matters.
  • Prepares affidavits, briefs, pleadings, motions, discovery, subpoenas, legal correspondence and other case-related documents as required.
  • Organizes and maintains documents in either a paper or electronic filing system
  • Conducts legal research and files pleadings with the Clerk of the Court.
  • Investigates facts and laws of cases and searches public records and other resources to prepare cases and determine causes of action.
  • Gathers and analyzes statues, decisions, legal articles, codes documents and other data.
  • Prepare Requests for Order, ex parte, petitions, responses, reports, correspondence, spreadsheets, declarations, pleadings, and motions
  • Maintain contact with the opposing party, counsel, and clients involved in domestic violence abuse cases.
  • Secures confidential information such as medical, psychological and social factors contributing to the client’s situation for use in evaluating client’s legal case.
  • Substantial knowledge of State and Federal court systems is required.
  • Researches and helps to implement changing policies regarding Domestic Violence and Elder Abuse
  • Reviews service plans and performs follow-up to determine quantity and quality of services provided to client and status of client’s case.
  • Train and supervise legal support staff (interns, volunteers and other assigned staff) under the direction of the In-House Attorney and/or the CEO. 

Education, Experience and Other Requirements:

Graduate Degree (BA) from a four-year college or university with at least five years working for a law-firm; must have knowledge and experience with Family Law and the legal system. Familiarity with Immigration laws; A Paralegal certificate is required as well as an understanding of domestic violence issues from a victim advocacy perspective. Must be computer literate with knowledge of database software and web browsing; Excellent writing skills, must be able to multi-task and be comfortable in dealing with a diverse group of people.
